Comments on post about hearing aid usage in nursing homes.

It is shameful that as our hearing continues to deteriorate  we choose not to participate in conversations or any type of communications. Often it is the result of waiting far to long to address our hearing loss. As we tell everyone, it is never to early to address hearing loss. Not only are our faculties better to learn to adapt to better hearing, but we gain the ability to have conversation and be part of life. As we know, better hearing results in a far better quality of life. We all know people who have waited far to long. Think how we feel when we encounter these people who stare into space, essentially having no contact with anyone. Unable to hear even the simplest  utterance of hello.

If you are diagnosed with hearing loss don’t become one of these people. Don’t wait until it become more and more difficult to “restore” some usage of your hearing ability. There are loved ones who want to communicate with you, there are people who care for you and people who want you to enjoy to the maximum your quality of living.

Hearing Aid technology

A belated happy new year to all! May it bring you all health, wealth and happiness for the next 365 days and beyond.

There are some specials we would like to make you aware of , offered by And How Hearing for the month of January. From now until the end of the month we offer Free hearing evaluations. Appointments are necessary, so call us at 203-754-2200.

Anyone purchasing a Siemens hearing system during the month will receive absolutely free a battery re-charger, with a retail value of $300. Just like your cell phone where you recharge the battery every night, hearing aids now work the same way. Plug them in after wearing them all day, recharge the battery for approximately 7 hours overnight and you get about 14-15 hours on the charge. They are very convenient, a time saver, and in the long run will save you money over regular hearing batteries. And for those with clumsy fingers like me, no more picking up batteries off the floor.

Finally, if you are curious what the new technology is all about we are offering you the opportunity to try hearing aids at no risk. We tell you all the time how technology has improved, but don’t take our word for it. We want you to try the hearing aids in your everyday situations. See if they do not help you with better understanding of conversations, hear that the TV isn’t as loud, and experience what hundreds of others just like have already found out. Hearing aids can improve your quality of life.

Among some of the other improvements with today’s technology is the ability to answer and hear your blue tooth telephone right through your hearing aids. It’s as simple as pushing a button, and through blue tooth streaming the conversation comes to you in stereo. You get to hear using both ears, making it much easier to hear on the phone.

Also your television can also  be streamed to the hearing aids. Now you can listen at normal levels, again using 2 ears at the same time. No longer hear the complaints that the television is to loud.

We are here  to help you hear better. Ask us questions, find out whats available and  what you are and are not hearing. Again, it is all about better living and better quality of live because you hear better . That is our only goal, to help you to hear better.

Remember we are offering free hearing evaluations for the month of January.  We would be more than happy to explain the many technological improvements available in today’s hearing aids.

We can also take care of your existing hearing aids. We repair all makes and models, we service all makes and models, we sell hearing aid batteries, we do hearing testing and evaluations, and we make custom ear molds. And sometimes our jokes are actually funny….

Better hearing is better living……. We look forward to meeting you shortly.

Howard

Quality of Live is Drastically improved.

This is a follow up on the 86 year old woman, who was fit for hearing aids about 2 weeks ago. Read the post about her 1st experiences in my office.

Today she was in the office for minor tweaking of her new hearing aids. Naturally in the course of conversation I was curious how and where she noticed an improvement in her everyday life.

Among her many positive comments, I heard thing like, ” it is amazing to be able to talk to people and actually understand”. She made comments about how she enjoyed her group bingo sessions, and how chat around the table with her long time friends was much more enjoyable.

Her daughter Linda serving as driver and supporter was equally  impressed with mom’s new found hearing ability. For those who didn’t read the previous blog, when Linda came with her mom for the initial fitting she was in tears. Both she and her daughter were able to actually carry on a conversation with mom  for the first time in years.

At the original fitting, the first comment Linda heard  after the hearing aids were adjusted in her mom’s ear, was “Linda you are the best daughter ever and”I love you”. Lucille continues to  be amazed every day about what she is hearing. She is adapting quite well to  using the hearing aids, and has no problems with the recharger, nor with putting them into her ears. She does report her hands do get stiff every once in a while, but overall she is adjusting very  well.

The bottom line is Lucille continues to express remorse for not doing something sooner in life. Her happiness shows on her face as her eyes sparkle. Her family is overjoyed about carrying on a two way conversation, and having her part of their lives once again.

Only a few days before Christmas I once again get to experience how better hearing is indeed better living.  I experience how people smile, how much joy they get from being part of family again, how they feel, look and act like there is  a whole new world out there.

Live life to its fullest………

Howard

Hear better in time for the Holidays. When family gathers, maybe for the first time since last year, do you want to be part of the conversation. Are you tired of saying what, what. With a FREE Evaluation, you have nothing to lose and a more fulfilling life to gain.

And-How Hearing

Do you have problems understanding in noise? Do you have  the television or radio so loud, others complain? Do you miss parts of conversations? Do you have difficulty telling  which direction sound is coming from?  Are you becoming less active because you are tired of asking people to repeat themselves? When at a party or social gathering  do you ever feel like people are talking about you. Have other people mentioned that you are not understanding?

My friends, these are warning signs of hearing loss. And hearing loss effects your quality of life. Just ask your spouse or partner how they feel when they have to repeat things there or four times. You tell them not to yell at you, and still you are not communicating properly. How do you feel when the grand children get on the phone and you can not understand them, and you see them so…

Success with hearing aids.

Yesterday I fit an 86 year old lady with her first set of hearing aids. She was very friendly and outgoing and was relating some of her World War II history. She apparently was one of the original “Rosie the Riveter” girls. For those to young to know, that refers to the group of woman who kept our factories humming along during the time when most men were serving in the military fighting the war on two fronts. It was people like her who kept up and produced a great deal of our industrial output during the war years.

With her was her daughter and granddaughter. As I became more and more intrigued by her story, it became very obvious that the conversation was very much one sided. Her daughter kept  mentioning that she couldn’t hear. I tried to assure her that the fitting was about to change that.

After preprogramming her new hearing aids, i inserted them into her ears. No sooner had i removed my hand from her ear than tears began to stream down the ladies checks. I asked her what was the matter, and she responded through teary eyes that it was a “shear delight” to hear my voice so clearly. Her granddaughter, observing all of this, asked her a question to which the lady answered. This brought tears to the granddaughter’s eye as apparently she was never able to get full answers to her questions when asked.

The daughter now in tears herself from observing what was transpiring in front of her. spoke for the first time. She uttered the words “mom I love you” to which her mother responded without hesitation, Linda, you are the best daughter I could ever have, and I love you.

Needless to say it was an emotional experience for everyone. There were comments made about waiting so long, and why didn’t they do this sooner. There were tears of happiness, and there was the revelation of hearing spoken speech clearly and of being able to communicate with family and loved ones.

This particular fitting or should I say conversation went on for the better part of an hour.  I was making a new friend and at the same time learning from her experiences. Never once did I make an adjustment on the hearing aids. That will be done in a week at her first follow up appointment. It was an amazing opportunity for me to get to know a little bit about this incredible woman . It was a time of making new family connections, and it was a time when I could see first hand how better hearing is indeed better living.

Yesterday was a very good day………………

Hearing and quality of life.

You tell them not to yell at you, and still you are not communicating properly. How do you feel when the grand children get on the phone and you can not understand them, and you see them so infrequently.

How about when the family gathers for the Sunday dinner, and in that small crowd you can not follow the family news. Or maybe when you go to a meting and can not understand .

Once again hearing loss results in a compromised quality of life.  Help is available. Life is too short . Get the help you need. Happy Holiday

As we approach Thanksgiving and the start of the official holiday season I want to wish l a joyous, prosperous, and most importantly a healthy holiday to all.

At this time of the year families often reunite. Children and grandchildren perhaps visit from out of state. Maybe you drive to see aunts and uncles, or friends you have not seen in a long time. We eat, drink and we generally have a great time.

However some of us suffer through the holidays. The suffering is caused by an inability to hear the family members properly. Sitting around the dinner table trying to understand becomes frustrating. Asking people to repeat themselves is a bother, and besides you know you are not going to understand them anyway.

So you suffer, frustrated and saddened, maybe even depressed. What should be a joyous occasion you suddenly find being a struggle. You are not participating in the fun.You are angry, you are reluctant to partake in the conversations, you sit wondering what you are missing. You want the company to leave and you want to be left alone.

Remember these are supposed to be joyous times. A celebration with friends and family.A gathering of loved ones, people you might not see often. I urge you, if this is you, don’t suffer. Have your hearing evaluated, recognize that there is probably help available. Learn to celebrate once again. Life is better when you hear and understand whats going on around you, and you can communicate with those whom matter most to you.

To make the holidays a happy occasion, And How Hearing is offering the opportunity to have a free hearing evaluation. From now to the end of the year call us, schedule an appointment in either of our offices, and we’ll tell you if we can turn those family gatherings back to the joyous, wonderful, fun times they are supposed to be. It is our gift to you.

Holidays should be happy, a time of family celebration, and  pleasant memories.

Enjoy !!!!!

Howard
